The homeowner faced a significant challenge with a backyard that had a large drop in elevation, making the space underutilized and difficult to landscape. They wanted to create additional planting areas and maximize the utility of the backyard while maintaining a cohesive look with the existing aesthetic of the house. Additionally, the homeowner desired a functional vegetable garden that would blend seamlessly with the natural beauty of their property. Safety was also a major concern, as the homeowner wanted to ensure a secure environment for her grandchildren to play in, despite the steep terrain and elevation changes. This required a solution that balanced functionality, safety, and aesthetic harmony.
To tackle the elevation challenges and maximize backyard utility, we terraced the space, creating additional planting areas. We used materials matching the existing aesthetic for seamless integration. For safety, especially for the homeowner's grandchildren, we designed stable terraces and installed a vegetable garden with natural stone planters. By working around existing trees, we preserved the natural landscape, ensuring a harmonious and functional outdoor space.
