Discover how we transformed a modern Spanish Oaks home with multiple courtyards into a harmonious, private oasis, balancing golf course views with integrated drainage and tailored plantings.
Located within the private and design-restricted Spanish Oaks community, this modern home presented a nuanced set of landscape challenges. The property included multiple courtyards spread across the site—each with unique sun exposure and drainage requirements—but unified by a shared need for harmony and connection.
The soil conditions were poor, and irrigation needed to reach fragmented spaces without compromising the architecture.
The success of this project hinged on close collaboration with the homebuilder to integrate landscape access, infrastructure, and drainage planning early in the construction process. We established underground drainage connections that tied into the home’s downspouts, guiding water efficiently away from foundation zones and low-lying courtyard areas.
Irrigation was carefully designed to reach disparate courtyard pockets, using zoning strategies to account for varying microclimates. The planting palette was hand-selected to accommodate shifting morning and afternoon light patterns—ensuring that each courtyard maintained both softness and longevity without excessive maintenance.
Hardscape elements and privacy plantings were composed to preserve open sightlines to the golf course, while creating a layered sense of enclosure and seclusion from adjacent homes. The result is a series of cohesive inner gardens—each distinct, but all contributing to a unified experience that feels both private and expansive.
The client sought to maintain open views toward the golf course, while still creating a sense of privacy and enclosure within the courtyard areas. In addition to navigating site constraints, the project required close coordination to ensure full compliance with Spanish Oaks’ rigorous design guidelines and architectural controls.
