When Austin Realtor Chloe Chiang set out to design her dream home in the Holly neighborhood, she knew it had to be more than beautiful—it needed to be soulful. Inspired by the character and communal spirit of New Orleans, Chloe envisioned a home that would not only reflect her personal style but also serve as a gathering place. The challenge: transform a large urban lot into a layered, porch-centric home with courtyards reminiscent of the French Quarter, all while maintaining ease of upkeep and honoring the site’s East Austin roots.
We worked closely with Chloe and her team of architects and builders to craft a landscape that delivered both in spirit and function. Drawing from the lush, enclosed feeling of New Orleans courtyards, we developed intimate garden spaces filled with low-maintenance greenery—creating a Secret Garden feel without the work. The design supports over 1,100 square feet of covered outdoor living, seamlessly blending private retreat and public hospitality. Key features include vine-covered fences, textural plantings, and Buffalo lanterns that cast a warm evening glow. Subtle Southern touches, like the use of light blue paint under porch ceilings (a nod to warding off spirits), infuse the space with deeper meaning. Each landscape element was selected to mirror Chloe’s commitment to layered beauty—just like the architectural and cultural history of The Big Easy.
