The homeowner aimed to utilize every part of their small yard, including the side yards, to create a modern, cohesive landscape. They envisioned a space that allowed free movement between the front and back yards, incorporating family-friendly areas for entertainment, a small pool for cooling off during hot Texas summers, and an immersive meditation space with soothing sounds and pleasant fragrances. Additionally, they wanted a small kitchen garden. The projectโs complexity arose from the diverse range of requested features within the limited space, balancing entertainment, relaxation, and gardening needs while maintaining a unified design.
To meet the homeowner's vision, we implemented a meticulously planned design that maximized the use of available space. We used a mix of natural and artificial materials to create multifunctional areas. The courtyard was designed to feel open yet private, and a small "Cowboy Pool" was included for cooling off without sacrificing space. We incorporated existing trees and coordinated with other contractors to seamlessly blend new features with the established landscape. Key elements included artificial turf with Lueders stepping stones, an Ipe deck, custom steel planters, a front water feature, and breeze block walls for privacy. The plant palette featured native and adapted species to minimize water needs and included a mix of perennials, grasses, evergreens, succulents, agaves, and yuccas. This thoughtful approach ensured a cohesive, visually appealing, and functional outdoor environment that met the homeowner's diverse needs.
